Good marketing is based in data, not “gut feelings”. If you want to be successful with your marketing, you HAVE to start tracking your analytics.
What are Website Analytics?
Web analytics is a general term used for the collection, reporting and analysis of website data. The purpose of analytics is to use real website data to determine the success or failure of our marketing goals as opposed to “gut feelings”.
Why are Website Analytics Important?
All marketing is iterative in nature. This means that MOST marketing campaigns don’t start out life profitably. In fact, most marketing campaigns lose money up front. However, through a series of small, incremental changes, we can convert a “money-losing” campaign into a “money-making” campaign.
How do we know what these incremental changes will be? We look at the data. This is why analytics programs are so important.
How to Fix It
If your site doesn’t have any sort of analytics program currently running – that’s OK but we do want to get this installed ASAP so that we can start collecting data.
There are many different analytics programs out there ranging in price from free to incredibly expensive. Our suggestion is to start with Google Analytics. It’s free, powerful and you can get started in less than 5 minutes.
Other Factors to Consider.
Reports suggest that nearly 80% of all Google Analytics installations are broken or incomplete. What does this mean? Be Careful!
- If you have multiple domains, make sure the analytics code is installed on each domain.
- If you have subdomains, make sure the code is installed on each subdomain.
- If you have any
3rd party apps that you’d also like to track – make sure you get the code in there too.
As always, if you need any assistance, please feel free to contact our development partners at Black Dog Studios and they can help you get your analytics installed or troubleshoot an incomplete installation.
